A new photographic exhibition at Nantwich Museum celebrates the design, character and heritage of Nantwich railway station’s Victorian footbridge.
Nantwich Museum is set to host ‘Across the Tracks: The Art of Nantwich Station Footbridge’, a temporary photographic exhibition running from 9th June to 20th June 2026 in the Museum’s Community Gallery.
The exhibition focuses on the station’s iron footbridge, a structure built approximately 125 years ago during the late Victorian or Edwardian era. It celebrates the design and construction of this striking piece of industrial heritage, while also acknowledging the tremendous work carried out by the Nantwich Station Adopters, a group of volunteers who maintain and improve the station environment on behalf of Transport for Wales and the local community.
All photographs in the exhibition were taken by Malcolm Reid, a retired archaeologist, heritage advisor, researcher and writer, who is a member of both the Nantwich Station Adopters and Nantwich in Bloom. An avid photographer with a lifelong passion for building and landscape photography spanning more than fifty years, Malcolm approached the footbridge as both a documentary subject and an artistic one. Presented entirely in black and white, the images highlight the bridge’s aesthetic qualities, exploring the interplay of structural elements, contrasting light and varied angles to reveal the enduring appeal of this remarkable structure.
Malcolm said:
“I am fascinated by the shapes and patterns that form the built environment. I enjoy the challenge of emphasising these photographically, as well as expressing the character and condition of individual buildings and structures, through the photographs I take.”
Supporting the exhibition is 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Partnership, who work to connect communities to their railway in Cheshire, Wrexham and Shropshire.

‘Across the Tracks: The Art of Nantwich Station Footbridge’ is free to visit and open during normal Museum hours. The exhibition runs from 9th June to 20th June 2026 in the Community Gallery at Nantwich Museum.
