The 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Partnership aims to prioritise a key strategic initiative: the development of a sustainable tourism project within the Wales and Borders region. The primary objective is to collaborate with local stakeholders to establish a sustainable tourism ecosystem. The project aims to promote local attractions, walking trails, and bike-friendly train travel within the 3 Counties Connected areas. Additionally, it seeks to attract visitors to the region by effectively showcasing the area’s offerings and providing clear information on how to access them via train, bus, foot, or bike.

1. Sustainable Tourism Workshop: Date: 21st September Attend Transport for Wales sustainable tourism workshop to initiate discussions with key tourism partners.

1. Promoting Local Attractions: Develop an illustrative map highlighting tourism assets within the three 3 Counties Connected areas connected by the railway.
2. Website Integration: Collaborate with Visit Shropshire, This Is Wrexham, and Marketing Cheshire to incorporate the following features into their respective tourism websites:

4. Visual Content Creation: Create compelling imagery and videos to highlight the beauty and experiences of the region, emphasizing the ease of accessing them by train.
5. Public Relations (PR): Implement a PR campaign to raise awareness about the Wales and Borders tourism project, highlighting its objectives, benefits, and the opportunities for local communities and businesses.
6. Community Workshops: Conduct workshops involving local businesses and community groups to familiarise them with the illustrative map and demonstrate the possibilities for train, bus, foot, and bike-based visits.

Project Timeline:

Initiation Date: Immediately following the Transport for Wales sustainable tourism workshop on 21st September.

Development Phase: Autumn and Winter, 2023.

Launch Date: February 2024.

Expected Outcomes:

Enhanced awareness among residents about the tourism potential within their region.
Increased visitor numbers through better articulation of the region’s attractions and accessible transportation options.
Empowerment of local community groups and businesses to leverage the railway network for their events and activities.
Strengthened collaboration with tourism partners and local stakeholders for sustained project success.
