This spring the Community Rail Team and Transport for Wales came together with Josie Rayworth, 3 Counties Connected Community Rail Officer and volunteers to hold a Community Planting Event at Wrexham General Railway station.
The event was held to create a colourful welcome at Wrexham General station and to promote creating a ‘Friends of Wrexham Station’ scheme. Friends of schemes help to keep stations clean and pleasant, encouraging regular feedback about the facilities available and to report on any issues such as littering. Some schemes care for floral displays or the station garden and there are many great examples where volunteers maintain these gardens to a very high standard and are recognised by winning national awards.
Josie Rayworth, 3 Counties Connected Rail Officer said, “it was great creating some mood boosting giant planters at Wrexham General, the teams made the station much more welcoming creating colourful displays in planters and even a blooming wheelbarrow.”
“It was satisfying to see just how much can get done in one day when everyone works as a team, and we hope people see the colourful display at Wrexham and want to support their own local station to be cleaner and greener”.
